In Germany , over 18 million tons of food are wasted every year. About half of this is wasted in our own homes – the other half along the entire value chain: from the field through production, through intermediaries, logistics companies, wholesalers, central warehouses, and finally to the supermarket shelf.
Incredibly, every minute in Germany, an entire truckload of food is thrown away. If you lined up all these trucks end to end, the resulting traffic jam would stretch right across Germany – at least from Berlin and far beyond.
This is bad news at first – but there is hope: More and more companies are committing to a better world. Over 800 partner companies have now collaborated with SIRPLUS to rescue food and demonstrate that Zero Waste For Zero Hunger is possible and that we can all do our part.
In February of this year – by a happy coincidence (or perhaps it was fate) – I met someone from the Holle team at BIOFACH. We clicked immediately, and it quickly became clear: together we can achieve great things .

Thanks to this great encounter and the support of our proven partner organization Aid Pioneers , with whom we have already donated many full truckloads of rescued food to Ukraine, and FRIDA in Ukraine, a wonderful cooperation has been created.
38 pallets of baby food were at risk of being lost. Due to strict EU regulations, donating these more than 21,000 cans within the EU was not possible. But together with the NGO Frida in Ukraine, we found a solution: All 38 pallets full of baby food could now be donated and delivered to where they are urgently needed.
A huge thank you to everyone involved – and especially to Holle for the courage, openness and commitment to do something truly good with these surplus food items .
Zero Waste for Zero Hunger.
This is what we are committed to – with you, with partners like Holle and Aid Pioneer, and with a lot of heart.
We have already donated over 530,000 meals with Welthungerhilfe (WHH) and Mary's Meals Germany e.V., and we have already achieved our goal of reaching 1 million by 2025! Our next goal is 2 million meals. There will be further major rescue operations, because there is almost always a way to save food instead of wasting it! So join us in saving food at www.sirplus.de and help create a world where everyone has enough to eat!
Which other companies should we work with to rescue food?
