FAQ

Don't worry – our products are safe! We rescue food that, for various reasons, can no longer be sold but is still perfectly edible. Every product is carefully inspected before it goes on sale.

Yes – this is legally permitted as long as the products are safe and edible . The best-before date (BBD) is not a use-by date, but rather an indication of a product's optimal quality. Food may still be sold after the BBD has passed if it has been carefully inspected and poses no health risks. SIRPLUS collaborates with experts and laboratories to guarantee the quality and safety of its products. We only sell what we ourselves would eat without hesitation – thus making sustainable consumption possible.

The best-before date (BBD) is not a use-by date. It indicates until when a product retains its optimal quality. Almost all foods are still perfectly fine even after the BBD – especially dry, packaged, or preserved products.

We rescue surplus products primarily from producers and wholesalers who can no longer sell their goods to supermarkets because supermarkets usually require a minimum of 50% remaining shelf life and don't buy products with only a few months left before their best-before date. Besides a short shelf life, the reasons are often overproduction, changes in product range, or minor packaging defects, design changes, etc. We rescue what no longer makes it into regular retail.

Raphael Fellmer is an entrepreneur, climate activist, author, and co-founder of the Berlin-based impact startup SIRPLUS , which rescues surplus food along the entire value chain and resells it throughout Germany via an online shop. Together with over 150,000 customers, the startup has already saved more than 5 million kilograms of food and donated over 1 million meals to people in need.

His goal is to create a world where everyone has enough to eat. With SIRPLUS, he brings food rescue into the mainstream of society, raising awareness and appreciation for food within society, business, and politics.

His career as a food rescuer began in 2009 when he drew attention to the massive waste through "dumpster diving"—rescuing still-edible food from garbage cans . That same year, he embarked on a journey without money from the Netherlands, across Europe, West Africa, and the Atlantic Ocean to Brazil and then on to the USA, to raise awareness about sustainable living and food waste.

He lived for a total of over five years on a "money strike" to raise awareness and find solutions for a world where everyone has enough to eat.

Raphael Fellmer is co-founder of foodsharing , the largest volunteer food rescue movement in Europe with more than 400,000 registered users who have already saved over 240 million kilograms of food from over 16,000 businesses in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

The Berlin-based father of two is the author of the book "Happy without Money!" , a sought-after keynote speaker and known for his long-standing, passionate commitment to a sustainable world in which all people can develop their potential.

Through over 1,000 media appearances – including on Markus Lanz and SternTV – he became a leading figure in food rescue in German-speaking countries.

We work with experts and laboratories that regularly test the products. In addition, we check the packaging, smell, appearance, and consistency – and only sell what is truly safe.

Because we can buy them more cheaply – and pass this saving directly on to you. This makes sustainable consumption attractive for your wallet, too.

Yes, many drugstore products like creams or shampoos are still usable after their best-before date. We test them carefully and only sell products that are still safe and effective.

Every product you save helps to avoid CO₂ emissions – because production, transport, and disposal all contribute to climate change. Depending on the product, this can amount to several kilograms of CO₂!

We try to pass everything on in a meaningful way – for example, to social institutions or for educational projects. Anything that is no longer usable is disposed of professionally.
