We believe this must end: All food grown and produced should be eaten!

Why is food wasted?
Too big, too crooked, outdated design, too short a best-before date… In order to be sold in regular stores, food products must meet certain conditions. However, if food products don't meet these conditions, it doesn't necessarily mean they are no longer edible.

Food waste in Germany
Approximately 18 million tons of food end up in Germany's trash every year. That's equivalent to a truckload every minute!

10 million tons of food waste in Germany are avoidable, and with it the resources that were generated during production:
22 million tons of greenhouse gases
This corresponds to half of all agricultural greenhouse gas emissions in Germany.
2.6 million hectares of land
This area is larger than Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.
12 million liters of water
This corresponds to one fifth of Germany's water consumption.
Global food waste
Every year, 2.5 billion tons of food are wasted globally. One-third of the world's food production goes uneaten. This food has a value of $1 trillion. If food waste were a country, it would be the third largest CO2 emitter after China and the USA.

To grow the amount of food that is wasted annually, a total of 1.4 billion hectares of land is needed – an area three times the size of Europe!

To feed all the world's starving people, we would only need a quarter of the globally wasted food.

According to Project DrawDown, reducing food waste is the number one solution to the climate crisis - even ahead of electric cars, solar energy and plant-based diets.
