SIRPLUS is an online supermarket where you can order food that producers and wholesalers can no longer sell. We then conveniently send your rescued food to your home by mail. This way, surplus food is returned to the food cycle , thus reducing food waste.

We only stock food items that aren't needed by food banks. You can put together your own shopping list or choose a subscription box from us. You can find more information about our subscription boxes here.

Why food rescue is important

18 million tons of food are wasted in Germany every year! More than half of this is avoidable. This waste not only consumes the food itself, but also the resources like CO2 and water that went into growing and producing it.

At the same time, there is hunger in the world: the almost one billion starving people could be fed with less than a quarter of the food that is wasted in the USA, UK and Europe.

How we can reduce food waste

Together with you, we bring surplus food back into circulation, thereby promoting greater appreciation of food and simultaneously reducing food waste.

We rescue food directly from producers and wholesalers. These companies can no longer resell the food for a variety of reasons: the best-before date is too soon or has already passed, too much was produced, the packaging design is outdated, or similar issues.

We only receive what other organizations, like food banks, cannot or will not rescue for various reasons. We see ourselves as complementing the work of food banks and working with them to solve the problem. Any surplus we sometimes have, we donate to foodsharing and food banks.

Who is behind SIRPLUS?

Founder Raphael Fellmer has been campaigning against food waste and for the appreciation of food since 2009. After years as a dumpster diver, he lived for 5.5 years without money and during that time successfully built the organization Foodsharing. Over 400,000 people and 16,000 businesses now participate in food rescue through this platform. In 2017, Raphael founded SIRPLUS to make food rescue simple and accessible to everyone.
