Petitions-Endspurt: SIRPLUS zieht vor den Bundestag!

Petition final sprint: SIRPLUS takes its case to the Bundestag!

Last Friday, the entire SIRPLUS team and numerous supporters marched in front of the Bundestag to draw attention to our petition for the abolition of VAT on expired food.

Currently, it is more tax-efficient for companies to throw away food past its best-before date than to resell it and keep it in circulation, resulting in enormous quantities of perfectly edible food ending up in the trash. This is not only a social catastrophe but also a massive burden on our planet. Around 10% of all human-caused greenhouse gases worldwide are attributable to food waste.

As part of the Paris Climate Agreement, the German government has committed to reducing food waste in Germany by 50% by 2030. To achieve this, concrete measures are now needed that incentivize food rescue through tax breaks, rather than penalizing it.

The aim of our campaign was to raise awareness of the problem among as many people as possible. We therefore packed a truck full of rescued food, equivalent to the amount that ends up in the trash every minute in Germany alone. We gave this food away in front of the Bundestag and donated it to Moabit Hilft e. V.

Our petition has 7 days left and we still need a few more signatures, but with your vote we can bring this demand directly to the Bundestag. Join us and sign now!
