All rescuers are winners

We are absolutely delighted and deeply touched. We are especially pleased that this issue is receiving so much attention and is being so well received by the public, because only if we all make a change can we make the world a better place.

The last few months have been eventful, and we didn't expect so much support. Our team has worked hard and accomplished a great deal, but none of it would have been possible without the community, our visitors to the food rescue market, and our partners. A huge thank you again to everyone who helps us rescue food. We would also like to thank the other initiatives nominated in our category: Hiebers Frische Center KG with their food-sharing centers and Penny , which offers slightly imperfect vegetables. When it comes to combating food waste, everyone wins as long as they advocate for the value of food .

Most important award for the appreciation of food

SirPlus Team wins "Too Good for the Bin 2018" Federal Prize
According to a WWF study, 18 million tons of food are thrown away every year. The "Too Good for the Bin" initiative, launched in 2012, is working to combat this waste. The project was founded by the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture, and since 2016, the "Too Good for the Bin" Federal Prize has been awarded. The prize is given in various categories, such as gastronomy and retail.

Award for DingsDums Dumplings

We followed the nominees in the other categories with great interest and enjoyment. It's rare to see so many fantastic projects in one place, and it's an honor to get to know them all. We're especially pleased that our partner DingsDums Dumplings won the sponsorship award . They offered rescued delicacies at our EUREF Campus right from the start of our crowdfunding campaign in April 2017. The DingsDums Dumplings team makes and sells handmade dumplings from surplus food, most of which comes from SirPlus. These can be ordered for catering events, and on April 14th, the team opened a restaurant in Berlin-Kreuzberg near Görlitzer Park – address: Wiener Straße 34.

Raphael Fellmer has been awarded for the second time

Incidentally, this isn't the first award that co-founder and managing director Raphael Fellmer has received for his commitment to food appreciation. Back in 2016, he won the award in the "Education" category for the Foodsharing initiative. foodsharing.de is an online platform for distributing surplus food. Foodsharing has been around since 2012, and since then, over 200,000 people have registered. Furthermore, foodsharing sees itself as an educational movement and is committed to sustainable environmental and consumption goals. Among other things, they advocate for an end to food waste and against the excessive packaging of supermarkets. They address these and other issues at events and in the media and launch their own campaigns.
