Our contribution to your and our health
During the coronavirus crisis, we at SIRPLUS, as food rescuers, bear a special responsibility to protect our customers and our team while continuing to provide food for as many people as possible. The SIRPLUS rescue markets ensure the basic needs of the population are met and therefore, like our online shop, remain open for you and your loved ones. We are grateful that we can continue our mission to reduce food waste.
Our Covid task force acted early to ensure everyone's health: We tightened safety and hygiene measures in our warehouse and rescue markets as early as mid-March. Instead of closing at 8:30 p.m. as usual, we now close at 8:00 p.m. so our rescue market heroes have more time to clean and disinfect the stores. Wherever possible, we have moved work to home offices. However, the team in the warehouse, on the streets, and in quality management continues to work on-site to ensure that the delicious rescued food arrives safely at our rescue markets or in your home via mail as a rescue box.

What is particularly important to us right now
“We must now reduce the number of cases.” We stand behind this statement by the respected virologist Christian Drosten, behind all the measures that protect your and our health. Since mid-March, we have refrained from hugging our loved ones or visiting Grandma, and we have been working from home – even though this presents an enormous challenge for many of us, in addition to childcare. A relaxation of these and many other restrictions is slowly becoming apparent: For a few days now, we have been allowed to eat in our favorite restaurants again and see friends from whom we have kept our distance for a long time. But: We are far from having overcome Covid-19. It remains important to pay attention to hygiene and social distancing, not to expand our circle of contacts too much, and above all, to quarantine at the first sign of symptoms.
This is how we at the SIRPLUS team are currently making ourselves comfortable at home, in order to remain effective and in good spirits and to further mainstream food rescue:
Beyond all the rational considerations and precautions that are important to us during the coronavirus crisis, we don't want to forget what matters even more: human cohesion, solidarity, looking out for one another, and caring for each other. In times marked by health, economic, and therefore also inner uncertainty, we want to draw especially close together—even if only on an emotional level for now. We want to reconnect with the essential relationships, values, and goals in our lives that we may have lost sight of and touched in the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
Besides rekindling old school friendships, rediscovering a forgotten hobby, or enjoying newfound family time, we believe that now, more than ever, is the time to prioritize sustainability and solidarity in our purchasing decisions. We at the SIRPLUS team are personally committed to supporting small, regional, and socially responsible businesses that are struggling particularly during this crisis. As a company, we are also actively involved in supporting small but excellent sustainable partners. Under the hashtag #bettertogether, we have joined forces with LOVECO, Quartiermeister, and Kiezbett, whose visions we believe in and want to strengthen. Furthermore, through our #stayhomeclub , we are working to ensure that you and we can stay home while still enjoying local, rescued, and unique delicacies. Only together can we get through this crisis!

In January, we launched a crowdfunding campaign that makes these things possible and allows you to invest sustainably in SIRPLUS: in food rescue, an innovative business idea, and resource conservation. Since the coronavirus crisis, significantly more people have been ordering from our online shop. In March and April, your orders boosted our sales by half. Yay! Especially now, during the coronavirus crisis, we're learning to appreciate food anew. To process the now approximately 5,000 monthly orders from over 17,000 customers more quickly and efficiently, we need to invest in technology and logistics. This will ensure that we can continue to ship the ever-increasing order volumes promptly to our constantly growing community of food rescuers across Germany.
- While your wonderful customers are saving more food than ever before in our online shop, the situation is unfortunately somewhat different in our rescue markets. The reason: People are taking shorter routes to stock up on groceries and are instead relying more on local supermarkets or delivery services. Especially in our rescue markets at the East Side Mall and Ostbahnhof (less frequented by the S-Bahn), foot traffic was and in some places still is lacking.
- With your investment, you are actively contributing to a socio-ecological transformation of our economy and our society. Sustainable investments are urgently needed to decisively address the climate crisis, the crisis of our time that has been ongoing for years, before we return to "normal" and economic profits are once again subordinated to solidarity, climate protection, and a sustainable future for generations to come.

If we all pull together and take the dangers seriously, we can manage to keep the curve flat and still be there for each other, even without hugs.
