nebenan.de : Germany's largest social network for neighbors
A survey has revealed that 60% of the population would like better contact with their neighbors. This applies to large cities and villages alike.
In our modern world, increasing anonymity, loneliness, and demographic change are becoming ever more prominent and are growing challenges. We usually only know our neighbors by the name on their doorbell. Wouldn't it be nice to have more contact with them?
The social startup nebenan.de addresses all these issues. With 1.2 million users in Germany, it is the largest social network for neighbors in the country. Their vision is to transform neighborhoods into vibrant places where neighbors can get to know each other and feel at home. Sharing, exchanging, helping, giving things away, arranging meetups – all of this is possible for free with nebenan.de.

So that the neighborhood can become a neighborhood again!
Christian Vollmann: “I want to transform neighborhoods into livable places where neighbors get to know each other and feel at home again.”
The idea behind nebenan.de came to Christian Vollmann when he and his family moved to a new neighborhood and he wanted to get to know this still somewhat anonymous community. But how could he best make contact with them? After much consideration, he came up with the idea of creating an online forum to make it easier to make new connections.
The idea of neighbors in Germany connecting with each other, exchanging technical devices, or celebrating festivals together inspired Christian Vollmann. Finally, in 2015, nebenan.de was founded.
On nebenan.de you can register and see which of your neighbors are already members, connect with them, and get started right away. Together, you and your neighbors can meet up, look after the neighborhood, do urban gardening, organize flea markets and barbecues, or rescue food together.
Neighbors' Day
Nebenan.de is celebrating "Neighbors' Day" again on May 24th. This day encourages you to connect with your neighbors through a celebration. It provides an opportunity to meet people you otherwise only encounter in the hallway or on the street.
On the website www.tagdernachbarn.de , anyone can register a festival and receive a free participation kit containing pennants, games, sidewalk chalk, flyers, and shopping vouchers to help organize the event. Anyone can invite organizations, clubs, and daycare centers from the neighborhood.
" We had a wonderful neighborhood party in the garden, with Israeli salad, pasta salad, and many joys and discoveries. Thank you so much for your help. "
