Whether for the sake of the environment or your own health, a plant-based diet has many advantages. Have you perhaps already considered going vegan? If so, now is the ideal time to start, because it's Veganuary! You can find out what it's all about, what we at SIRPLUS have to do with it, and how you can participate in the following article.

What is Veganuary?

The name itself gives a hint as to what it's about: Veganuary is a mix of the English words "vegan" and "January".

According to its own definition, Veganuary is a non-profit organization that encourages people worldwide to adopt a plant-based diet during January. Since the campaign began in 2014, more than one million people worldwide have participated. Its mission is to support people on their journey to a plant-based diet and thereby create a global movement committed to sustainable nutrition. Other goals include protecting our planet and creating a future fit for our grandchildren. All the more reason for us to join Veganuary this year!

SIRPLUS and Veganuary

Sustainable business practices and a resource-conserving approach to nature are, for us as food rescuers, part of a future that is friendly to future generations.

A plant-based diet has been proven to be essential for achieving these goals, which is why we've long been fans of it. Why exactly?

  • Our founder Raphael Fellmer has been vegan for 10 years and tells you here why this diet makes the most important difference for him.
  • Did you know that 77% of the world's agricultural land is used for the animal industry alone? Over 50% of the total corn harvest and even 95% of the global soy harvest are used as animal feed.
  • Up to 90% of all proteins are lost on the way from the field to our stomachs.
  • If we ate the food we feed animals directly, we would only need a fraction of the agricultural land currently used. Forests could grow on this freed-up land.
  • If we were to reforest 50% of the world's agricultural land, the resulting primeval forest would absorb two-thirds of all CO2 emissions released by humans to date from the atmosphere.

Not enough advantages?

Besides protecting the environment and climate, a vegan diet can have a very positive impact on your health and well-being. We're convinced! A large proportion of our employees already follow a vegan or vegetarian diet. We now want to use January to switch completely to a vegan diet.
