- 20-30% of people in Germany don't know the difference between the best-before date and the use-by date on food products. This leads to completely unnecessary food waste of hundreds of millions of products every year.

Many of our food products are past their best-before date. However, they are still perfectly edible, have been tested, and are completely safe. This helps us avoid food waste and conserve valuable resources.

Important: The best-before date (BBD) should not be confused with the use-by date! BBD means "best before" and products with a use-by date should no longer be eaten after this date.

Find the oldest food item in your refrigerator, pantry, or freezer that is past its best-before date and that you would like to try.
Here's how to record the video:
State the best-before date and the type of food, and tell us how many months or years it has been past the best-before date.
The sample:

- Taste it (tell them and actually try it. (Don't eat it right away, but really taste it first.)
- The ideal reaction is that it still tastes good. 😉

How exactly does that work?
The topics are food appreciation, food waste, tips and tricks against food waste, and how to save food.
The location is your kitchen, and we only need what's already in your kitchen or pantry. We won't film the rest of your apartment. We'll use the footage for social media and educational purposes. In return, you grant us the rights to all recordings.

How do you get free food from Sirplus?
SIRPLUS offers free food as part of special promotions. For example, you can participate in product tests or submit a short video and receive rescued food for free. In their regular product range, you'll find expired but still edible products at significantly reduced prices.
Are the free food items at Sirplus expired?
Some of the free food items may be past their best-before date. However, they are still perfectly edible and are carefully checked before shipping. In this way, SIRPLUS helps to save food instead of throwing it away.
What is the difference between free food and discounted products?
You only receive free food items during limited-time promotions. Most products in the shop are heavily discounted because they are close to or past their best-before date. This allows you to shop affordably and conserve resources at the same time.
Why does Sirplus give away food at all?
We want to show that sustainable consumption is easy and rewarding. Our campaigns with free food raise awareness about food waste and invite you to try rescued products yourself.
Why you can do good with free food
SIRPLUS offers more than just a way to get free food . We make it easy for everyone to rescue food from waste at heavily discounted prices through our online shop. We offer hundreds of surplus products with short or expired best-before dates, as well as overproduced, over-produced, seasonal goods, and more . Buy food cheaply and save big !
On average, the products are 30-40% cheaper than the manufacturer's suggested retail price; in some cases, you can even save up to 90% or even get free products . The constantly expanding selection mainly includes groceries, household and drugstore items, cosmetics, and wellness products.
Over 150,000 people across Germany have already participated in the rescue effort, and since the end of July 2024, we have also been shipping to Austria and throughout the EU. Customers can either conveniently subscribe to the SIRPLUS Box or customize their product selection to their liking.
Together we have already saved 5 million kilograms of food and provided over 500,000 school meals in Africa. For every order you place with SIRPLUS, we finance two school meals for children in Africa through our NGO partner Mary's Meals .
